Barnyard: The Original Party Animals (Movie)
Back at the Barnyard (TV series)

8/10 I’ve wanted to re-review Back at the Barnyard for years, but I kept forgetting, but now I’m finally doing it, and on its 18th anniversary.
Plot: insert theme song
Positives:
1. The animation was good for its time. Otis and the other animals are really expressive and pleasant to look at.
2. The humor is fantastic; everyone knows the Dr. Pig jokes, which are funny, but I never expected this show to be any better than any cartoon I’ve seen to make me laugh this hard. Its absurdist nature works amazingly; the jokes always feel fresh, and gags hit their comedic delivery.
3. I love the characters, in particular, my favorites are Otis, Bessie, Pig, Pip, and Freddy for how entertaining and funny they are. Anytime one of them is onscreen, it’s a guaranteed laugh.
4. The voice acting is spectacular; each performer brings so much life and joy to their character, especially Tino Insana, who played the funniest character in the series, Pig. He improvised a lot of the Dr. Pig segments, which is really impressive.
5. Most of the episode plots were unique and entertaining, especially the ones with the animals going against Snotty Boy.
6. The theme song is insanely catchy.
Negatives:
1. Despite the animation on the animals looking decent for its time, the humans look atrocious, except for Ms. Beady, Farmer Buyer, and Snotty Boy; the others not so much.
2. Some of the plots, particularly in the first season, were very cliché or boring; they improved later on, but watching the first season is hard at times.
Overall, Back at the Barnyard is an underrated gem; it didn’t get the credit it deserved while on the air, but now everyone remembers it for the memes. I’d honestly recommend watching it if you like absurdist humor. Happy 18th anniversary.
